The Isle of Arran
You will often hear the scenic Isle of Arran referred to as "Scotland in Miniature". That's because it captures so many aspects of the beauty found throughout Scotland, from its dramatic towering peaks inviting hill walkers and climbers, to peaceful sandy bays overlooked by our own palm trees growing in the warm climate due to the of The Gulf Stream.
Arran lies less than an hour ferry crossing from Ardrossan on the Ayrshire coast on the West of Scotland. It is a relaxing island where you can enjoy the gentle rolling countryside in the south, or for the more adventurous, take on the granite mountain peaks to the north. Enjoy the wildlife, flora, fauna, geology, archaeology and history, all packaged in this island destination which has only 56 miles of coastline bordering the sea.
Activities & Adventure
The Isle of Arran is a great destination for a family holiday, a romantic retreat, a golf outing, cycling holiday, rock climbing and hill walking, water sports like power boating, sailing, kayaking, gorge walking, and many more activities.
After an action packed day, take in a visit to the distillery of "The Arran Malt", which was voted Scottish Distiller of the Year 2007.
Golf on Arran
For the size of the island, there are seven golf courses on Arran, and all offering great views but different challenges
although they are all fun to play. There are three 18 hole courses, one twelve (yes 12) hole
course and three 9 hole courses. All the courses were established in the late 1800's but one
is a fairly recent addition in 1988. The courses are not huge in length which gives it their
appeal, but don't be complacent, you wont shoot too many sub-pars here!! |
